Andy G’s Three Tips for Social Media Success
Social media seems to be all the rage right now in the real estate space. Every real estate agent loves talking about how social is the key to growth in our industry.
I personally think that you need to be authentic and enjoy social media if you want to utilize it for your business. Because simply showing up and posting on any social platform isn’t going to be enough. Here are my top three tips for utilizing social media.
1. Be authentic.
Show people what you’re up to every day. Don’t be afraid to show the good, the bad, and sometimes the ugly. Believe it or not, some of the ugliest things I post (usually the inside of flip homes) get the most engagement.
People are so accustomed to seeing all the glitz and glam around the real estate world that they love it when they get to feel like they’re seeing the real, raw footage. Not only that, but people can tell if you’re being fake, and the average person can see right through it.
2. Don’t strive for perfection.
Just get the posts out. Don’t waste your time in an effort to create the “perfect” post. It doesn’t exist. It’s better to post something than to post nothing at all because you’re worried about making things perfect. The best way to work toward that “perfection” is to post enough to gather the data that can help you understand what your audience is looking for. Then, refine your posts accordingly.
Every post you make, try and find a way to make the next one BETTER — not perfect. Waiting to post until you have the perfect hashtags, perfect captions, or anything like that will simply waste your time. And the reality is, not every post will get great engagement. So why not spend your time doing other, more valuable things (like generating leads!) instead of searching for the perfect hashtag?
3. Be consistent.
Most of the social profiles that are putting out consistent and solid content are successful. The key here is to be consistent. If you’re struggling to find the time to post on social, consider hiring help. Having help will also hold you accountable to generate content and post consistently.
Ryan always talks about consistency being key, and when I met him personally that was exactly what he told me as well. He said that in order to continue to grow, you need to continue to be consistent. Eventually, that habit of constantly posting becomes an addiction. You WILL begin seeing results, but it doesn’t just happen overnight.
Social media can be a fantastic tool for an agent’s business. Used the right way, it can help real estate agents grow and expand the credibility of their business. And it can increase exposure in ways that networking around town could never do. All of that being said, strive for consistency and not for perfection, and watch your business grow.
